Good to hear Trousers, bodes well for Hampden tonight. As for your next gig I'll pass judgement :)

Last Gig , last night - an Incredible String Band Tribute night with Mike Heron & Trembling Bells at Gateshead. Wonderful to hear 'A Very Cellular Song' & 'This Moment' again.
Next Gig , next Monday - Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys at Farndale. A night of real Cajun music in a rural Village Hall setting.
20 November - Bob Dylan at SECC. As ever, how many more times since I first saw him in '66?

Last night at Farndale Band Room ,capacity ~100, high up on the North Yorkshire Moors, Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys playing Cajun dance music. Left the Hall just before midnight after ~ 3 hours of playing to a warm, still night with a full moon. Stood a few feet from the band and got to dance a bit even if this style of dancing is a bit odd. Really great night, made by being able to enjoy high class musicians close up.
Next gig , Bob Dylan at SECC , I suspect to more than 100 audience and likely to be a few miles from the band.

Next gigs:
Friday - Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham in Kirrie.
Saturday - Michael Marra tribute evening at Dundee Rep featuring Dougie McLean, Eddi Reader, Liz Lochhead, Rab Noakes, Karine Polwart, Gary Clark, Saint Andrew, AMWWF (Anderson McGinty Webster Ward and Fisher), Mackenzie, Riley Briggs, Kit Clark, Tom Mitchell, Sheena Wellington, Rod Paterson and, of course, the Hazey Janes. Should be quite an evening.

Davey Tee, I am envious, the Michael Marra night looks memorable. If we'd been up in Angus we'd have gone ourselves. Seeing artists of that quality at Local venues is really rewarding I find as you can see just how good they are close up. We have memories of watching Aly's fingering from the front seats at Newcastle Irish Centre. On that note, our next gig is Sharon Shannon and her band in a Community Centre in Saltburn.
Enjoy the nights.

The joys of touring!
Last gig - Sharon Shannon at a small, local venue with ~60 people present. We got to sit in the second row where you can really see how good musicians can be. Sharon is an absolute master (or mistress?) of the accordion and gave us nearly 2 hours of high quality music - Irish jigs, reels and even some Mark Knopfler. Having got to the venue early, we saw the Chinese takeaway go in for Sharon and her support team. Their 10 year old Ford Transit van was outside. Its a real privilege, I find, to see an artist so close up in such a small venue.
On the other hand, next gig - Bob Dylan at Clyde SECC. Probably fewer Chinese takeaways and we might just be able to see him centre stage at the piano. A privilege too to be able to see a legend create. As ever, set lists give no solid idea what he'll play.

My last gig was Show of Hands at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool. Fantastic show it was too.

Unless anything comes up beforehand, my next will be Runrig at Sheffield City Hall

Last Gig - Night 3 of Bob Dylan at SECC. Bob was on top form too, giving a rerun through Tempest songs and a couple of oldtimers like She Belongs to Me and Blowing in the Wind. Wonderful to hear him in good voice too. After that we had to go and recuperate n the Angus Glens so a bit late in posting.
Next Gig - Runrig at The Sage but must book something before then.

Support live music.

Bruce Guthro Celtic Christmas Tour 2013.
First time to a Bruce Guthro-concert , it was a pleasant surprise, we thought.

Don't think it's significant but we seem to be seeing lots of 70+ year olds of late.
Last week, The Manfreds so lots of singalong to classics of our innocent youth.
Next gig, a national treasure, the wonderful Martin Carthy and daughter, Eliza.
Second front row so shouldn't miss a thing.

last: Muir of Ord
next: Runrig in Bensheim Germany.

next next: Runrig at Barrowland in December (hopefully 2014), if they'll schedule another gig this year.

I miss all those journeys across Europe in December so much. I long for travelling in ice and snow, with chaos on the roads, chaos at the airports and many hours of queuing in the cold.

Last gig: Eliza & Martin Carthy at Helmsley ( local venue for them, they could get the bus home).
First saw Martin when he was with Steeleye Span at Greens Playhouse of blessed memory. Still a wonderful artist with one of the great guitar styles. we were in the second front row so a good chance to watch two consummate musicians at work.
Next gig: nothing booked yet but, in response to Celtman , I met my wife at a Black Sabbath gig at Strathclyde Uni ( a real confession). Not seen them since but still married. Enjoy the night.

London based swing/boogie 5 piece The Cadillac Kings at our local Village Hall. You've got to support live music and musicians.
Next gig, maybe acoustic Richard Thompson tour at York?

I experienced my first ever pirate heavy metal gig the other night by going to see Alestorm. The gig was so much fun, I never thought I'd enjoy it but it was fantastic. :D

Off to see The Men They Couldn't Hang on Friday.

I went to see Skerryvore in Forfar a couple of weeks ago. Once I joined the enthusiasts leaping about at the front it was a very enjoyable gig, but I suspect that their strength lies in their live performances and I don't think I'd buy one of their albums. I thought that the lead guitarist was clearly heavily influenced by Malcolm Jones (and why not?).
