Last gig: The Unthanks with all 35 of the Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band at York Minster. Never been to anything quite like it and probably never will again. What a location.
Next gig: Runrig at Newcastle but sure to find something before then.

WACKEN!!!!!!!!!!

Line up for 2013 so far includes - Amorphis, Anthrax, Arch Enemy, Deep Purple, Doro, Nightwish, Rage & the Lingua Mortis Orchestra, Sabaton and Subway To Sally!!!
That in itself would be an amazing lineup but there will be about another 100 bands or so by the time it comes around!!!

Last night at Gateshead - The Aly Bain/Jerry Douglas Transatlantic Sessions Collective - an ensemble of wonderful traditional musicians supplemented by 'stars'. This year's were:
Mary Chapin Carpenter
Eric Bibb - great guitar playing & singing
Aoife O'Donovan
Teddy Thompson
Emily Smith

Not sure what next, Teddy's Dad, Richard, maybe in a month at The Sage or Christine Tobin singing Leonard Cohen at a local Village Hall in front of maybe 80-100 people.

Last gig - in a Village Hall in the wilds of North Yorkshire to an audience of ~50 people:
Christine Tobin singing the Songs of Leonard Cohen.
Proof that live music exists at all sorts of levels and in all sorts of places. And that it needs to be supported.
This was an evening of modern jazz versions of Cohen songs, subsidised by the local council & Arts England.

Next gig (booked at least), a night of Cajun music from Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys in our favourite venue - Farndale Silver Band Room , capacity ~110 but an astonishing environment for musicians and audience. Strongly recommended.

It's Ceilidh Time!
From one corner of the country to the other:
Last one '' Licence to Ceilidh'' at my daughter's wedding in Canterbury.
Next one Face the West at the Stornoway Half Marathon post race event.
From the South East corner to the far North West.
