DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR

We listen to this track from Bruce Guthro's Christmas CD Bound For Betlehem.

Roadtrip wrote above : Here's for the Dylan fans, 50 years late, but the official video of Like a Rolling Stone

There is also a Dylan on this CD , but he is a bit younger , Dylan Guthro.

Bruce Guthro - Arthur McBride which he sang at his recent Danish tour. I found out it was actually relevant to the exam paper I'm writing at the moment.

(Talk to me of) Mendocino
A beautiful little song, charmingly sung by the McGarrigles, now more famous for being Rufus & Martha Wainwright's Mother & Aunt but always good value.

Long time since I or anyone else has posted here so, just to keep things going:
1952 Vincent Black Lightning from Richard Thompson's new Acoustic Classics album.
A wonderful song with a story sung by one of the all-time great singer songwriter/guitar players.
Have a listen to Beeswing too while you're there.

I'll bet not so much as on the forthcoming royal baby, though. Mind you, it's funny how that announcement came just a day after David Cameron reportedly held "crisis talks" with the Queen over the Scottish referendum.

Gosh, I am getting soooooo cynical......

DT, its natural to become somewhat cynical when you begin paying attention. Power plays always get complicated and you must pay attention to recognize the realities involved. But we are getting off topic so I will confine more comments to the LD section.

Road trip, thanks for posting this one, it made me go back 45 years to 1969 and listen again to Jimi Hendrix play The Star-Spangled Banner at The Woodstock Festival. (Look it up on Google). It might be a long time ago but the treatment still retains a raw power, especially when you remember what else was going on at the time.
Well worth a view if anyone isn't familiar with this version thanks for taking me back in time. Jimi still remains the artist I most regret not having seen play.

Excellent version, RT, and I can understand the effect it has on you as a proud and patriotic American. I'd be interested to know whether you feel the same about the controversial Hendrix version :?: .

Truediamond, I'm no spring chicken but was not old enough to go or really understand Woodstock at the time it occurred. I am familiar with Hendrix, my all-time favorite has to be All Along the Watchtower. By the one and only Bob Dylan.
DT, can't say I'm a fan of Hendrix's anthem, too screechy. I appreciate the sentiment though, the reason he played it. Those times were pivotal, as these times are also, but not for the same reasons.

Hi there Roadtrip, it won't be the first time on this Site that I've said that it always comes back to Bob so thanks for raising his name for me. I'd been thinking of something appropriate for today and, at first, When the Ship Comes In came to mind but then, I went even further back in time to an all time American classic which, for me at least as a Scot living in England, resonates especially today. And we can sing along as well

One of my all-time favourites, Pink Floyd: "Comfortably Numb",

"When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
I have become comfortably numb".

Truediamond, interesting choice. When I, my husband, and son were in Scotland we visited a restaurant in Oban that was putting on a show for tourists. Each table was invited to sing a song from their country. My inspiration was to sing This Land is Your Land, but my companions were duds, as were most tables- too shy to sing. The Aussies gave a rousing rendition of Waltzing Matilda though.

DaveyTee, my sympathies this morning. I have to say I was astounded by the turnouts all over Scotland for the vote. You definitely got the attention of London!
