Since I got involved with East Coast FM radio station the range and amount of music that I have been playing and listening to has been amazing, even more than it used to be!!! With shows like The Eclectic Mix you can't avoid loads of different styles from the 50's right through to today and then things I haven't listened to so much like soul, jazz and old skool and my old favourites of folk and rock. I've also been amazed by the number of new and upcoming bands I've discovered/been introduced to as well.

Anyway, back on topic and I'm going over my show from last Friday night so this is what I'm playing now........

Nightwish - Imaginaerum
Diabalo Swing Orchestra - Honey Trap Aftermath
Chuck Berry - Roll Over Beethoven
LOST IN AUDIO - Walking Beside Me
Blind Faith - Had To Cry Today
Saxon - Devil Rides Out
Status Quo - Softer Ride
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
AC/DC - For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)
Iron Maiden - Paschendale
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
The Anix - In The End
MAGNUM - On The 13th Day
DORO - We Are The Metalheads
Saxon - We Came Here To Rock
Runrig - The Ocean Road
Lana Lane - Shine On Golden Sun
Rammstein - Amerika
Led Zepplin - Since I've Been Loving You
ZZ Top - Chartreuse
Nightwish - Gethsemane
Korpiklaani - Let's Drink
Disneyland After Dark - Dirty Fairytale
Slayer - Angel Of Death

Excellent song, and as you say, a story. Quite a lot of versions, but I agree that Richard Thompson's is the best. It also happens to be on a very fine album.

For me meanwhile - The Imagineers "Imagineer"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap6avp5U2v4
Nice even if slightly cheesy video from this Glasgow band - the start sounds slightly Runriggish! - Much of the video seems to have been shot in Angus, which is an added bonus, with Glamis Castle and Arbroath both featuring. I was particularly pleased to see Kerr's miniature Railway in Arbroath - I used to ride on that as a child and that was a long time ago! The video was shot for Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show in the USA, but do check out other performances by The Imagineers on YouTube - I haven't yet found a song by them that I don't like, and for me, that's saying something.

Lots of snow here so been going through the back catalogue and picked up on The McGarrigle Hour, a live DVD from the whole family and some friends. Although probably more notable for the two Wainwrights, Rufus & Martha these days, their songs have a charm of their own.
Two specially:
i) Schooldays - with some of the best alliterative lines ( Blaspheming bullet blue jeaned baby boy)
ii) NaCl(Sodium Chloride) - possibly the only love song involving covalent bonding
