Oh Canada

Tip of the hat to our good friends and neighbors to the north this Thanksgiving season. Very moved and very thankful for your regard.

Ya got me, DT! I'm not going to rest though, I hold ALL of their feet to the fire because both sides can get too big for their britches.

Re: Wildlife Appreciation Thread.

Haven't seen the owls lately. Ciara is sleeping all night now so I'm not out in the wee hours anymore either, so haven't heard them hooting to verify if they are still around. I watched a show about coywolves recently, a naturally occurring hybrid showing up on the east coast that originated in Cana...

Re: Promoting Runrig Style Music In The New World

Give a short summary of the song, telling the audience what it is about. If possible, get the audience to join in the chorus, teaching them a bit of Gaelic. We attended a musical presentation in Portree that used this program. There were many nationalities in the audience, we sat next to a couple fr...

Re: I have a question...

I can't speak for respect or recognition from other artists across the pond as I don't live there. I wonder if the obvious Christian spirituality in some of the lyrics have anything to do with lack of endorsement and recognition? It was this aspect of their music that drew me in the first place, but...

Re: Wildlife Appreciation Thread.

I was outside (with the puppy) at 2:30 AM and heard the owls calling to each other. With a full moon and autumn in the air, it was eerie. It occurred to me that I should do some research, I just took the neighbor's word that it was a screech owl. I now believe what I saw was a Great Horned Owl. The ...

Re: Wildlife Appreciation Thread.

We have two huge screech owls sleeping in the neighbor's willow tree during the day. My neighbor invited me and the grandkids over to see the female perched up there the other day. She eyed the youngest the whole time. She must be about 3 to 3 1/2 ft tall! The male is said to be even bigger! We just...

Re: Are we all tired of the forum?

Tired of the forum? Not in the least! I agree with Zephyr, I don't come as often because real life keeps me busy. A couple of years ago I decided to stop "sitting at websites with no access to the cost" instead of lamenting about it. You have to be the change, not tell others to be the cha...

Re: Now Playing...

Truediamond, interesting choice. When I, my husband, and son were in Scotland we visited a restaurant in Oban that was putting on a show for tourists. Each table was invited to sing a song from their country. My inspiration was to sing This Land is Your Land , but my companions were duds, as were mo...

Truediamond, I'm no spring chicken but was not old enough to go or really understand Woodstock at the time it occurred. I am familiar with Hendrix, my all-time favorite has to be All Along the Watchtower. By the one and only Bob Dylan. DT, can't say I'm a fan of Hendrix's anthem, too screechy. I app...

Yes, I've been seeing more reporting on the upcoming vote over here. I'll bet not so much as on the forthcoming royal baby, though. Mind you, it's funny how that announcement came just a day after David Cameron reportedly held "crisis talks" with the Queen over the Scottish referendum. Go...

Re: Bruce's lyrical tweaking

When does a lyrical adaptation become a mistake? I don't think you can call a lyrical adaptation a mistake as it is intentional. However, the reverse- a mistake becoming an adaptation- is possible. My daughter sings, and when she makes a lyrical mistake she keeps on going as you can't stop and star...

Re: Are Runrig lyrics po-faced?

Ahhh....the fog clears! All I have to say is that I don't find Runrig's lyrics remotely pompous. Serious and earnest, yes- at times. They can also be inspirational and thought provoking. What I really enjoy is the coupling of words that mean something, sometimes the coining of new and different phra...

Sounds like a job for adult diapers to me. You can wear them at night and in line too. Not sure if they contain smells though. Over here you see Depends brand in the grocery stores everywhere The aging of the baby boomers don't ya know!

Re: Wildlife Appreciation Thread.

Don't have pics, sorry. We have a park 3 blocks from the house. This year coyotes have come down from the foothills and prowl the streets at night, sleeping in the brush lining the creek bed in the park by day. When I have to get up in the wee hours to let the dog out I sometimes hear them howl. The...
