50 years ago today, according to my radio this morning, at a gig in Manchester Free Trade Hall, Bob Dylan received the most famous heckle in rock - ' Judas!'. I saw Bob on the same tour, from the circle upstairs at the Glasgow Odeon in Renfield Street. So, to bring back the memories, here's the resp...

Re: Now Playing...

Still with the 60s them, just back from a couple of longhaul flights with Emirates where, if you're of my generation, you get the chance to listen to classics from your youth. Amongst albums by Captain Beefheart, Love & John Martyn , how about : Tupelo Honey from Van Morrison to cheer yourself up.

Aly Bain, Bruce Molsky and Ale Moller - a real treat to see such good musicians, who clearly enjoy playing together, at close hand. Aly Bain's fiddle playing and fingering is a thing of wonder.
Next gig : Transatlantic Sessions with Sly Bain , Jerry Douglas and whoever else turns up, February 2016.

The Lads in their Hundreds
I came across this on the net while looking for gigs from this 'English acoustic roots & folk duo', Show of Hands. A beautiful, poignant setting of a Houseman poem about World War I. So good, I've ordered the album.

Re: Now Playing...

Thanks, Davey, Skipinnish gave me a final glimpse of a summer trip to Arran/Islay & Jura. Marvellous scenery and places. Next month, The Cutting Edge set of Bob Dylan recordings will give us all 16 takes laid down in the studio before the final version of what is claimed to be the first and argu...

Re: Last gig - Next gig.

Rosanne Cash at Gateshead. A great concert from someone who was bred to music , songs from her father, from her grandparents, her own music and a particularly gothic Ode to Billy Joe.
Next gig (?) - 4 harp players in concert as part of the Ryedale Festival.
Enjoy summer

Re: Last gig - Next gig.

A private concert to celebrate a friend's birthday. He'd booked Boo Hewerdine, a great, but mysteriously little known singer/songwriter with several albums to his name and he was fabulous. Next gig , another session with Northumberland's own King of the English Concertina and small pipes - Alastair ...

Re: Now Playing...

50 years young
I don't know if anyone else is a Guardian reader but, 50 years ago tomorrow, Bob Dylan recorded Subterranean Homesick Blues, all 2 minutes 22 seconds in one take, apparently.
The first 'pop video' came 4 months later.
So, one month since my last post, what better song to listen to?

Re: Last gig - Next gig.

The wonderful Kathryn Tickell ( Queen of the Northumbrian pipes) with her band at Stockton Arc. One of the less likely traditional music lineups:
Northumbrian pipes/fiddle
Piano Accordion/Clog
Harp
Cello
But tremendous playing all the same.

Roadtrip, you did better than us, we travelled as a small group trekking in the Himalayas a couple of years ago. At the end of trek dinner, the porters and guides sang some local songs to us and we had to respond. The only thing we, a group of 8 could agree on was ' Head, Shoulders , Knees and Toes'...

Hi there Roadtrip, it won't be the first time on this Site that I've said that it always comes back to Bob so thanks for raising his name for me. I'd been thinking of something appropriate for today and, at first, When the Ship Comes In came to mind but then, I went even further back in time to an a...

Re: Now Playing...

Road trip, thanks for posting this one, it made me go back 45 years to 1969 and listen again to Jimi Hendrix play The Star-Spangled Banner at The Woodstock Festival. (Look it up on Google). It might be a long time ago but the treatment still retains a raw power, especially when you remember what else...
